Grants for Disabled People in Georgia
Mobility, cognition, independent living, hearing, vision, and self-care are all examples of functional disabilities in Georgia. The adult population in the state with either of the disabilities mentioned above is 1,960 756. This equates to 25% or one in every four adults in the state. Disability health costs of up to $20.3 Billion each year, or up to 32% of the state’s healthcare budget, are projected to be over $13,543 per disabled person.
State Assistance
State assistance to disabled people is provided through ADA Coordinator’s office. The office informs the general public about the ADA’s standards applicable to the state government through informal technical help and material dissemination. Also, it conducts outreach efforts with persons with disabilities and representative groups to better understand consumer viewpoints on state government programs, services, and activities. Healthcare Assistance
Medicaid Program
Medicaid is a medical assistance program that assists many people who cannot afford medical treatment by paying some or all of their medical expenditures. The Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) administers Medicaid, which covers medical expenses with state and federal tax dollars.
Georgia Long-Term Care Partnership Program
The Long-Term Care Partnership Program (Partnership), which the Department of Community Health administers in partnership with the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and the Department of Human Resources, Division of Aging Services, offers a viable alternative to spending down or transferring assets through the formation of a partnership between Medicaid and private long-term care insurance companies.
Waiver Program
The project’s objective is to move more than 2,600 Medicaid long-term care Georgians from institutional settings to the community by December 2018, principally via the utilization of Georgia’s Medicaid waiver programs, namely the Independent Care Waiver Program (ICWP). Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
The disability programs for Social Security and SSI are the largest of numerous Federal programs that help persons with disabilities. While these two programs differ in many respects, they are both managed by the Social Security Administration. Only persons with a handicap who fulfill medical requirements may be eligible for payments under either program. If you are “covered,” which means you have worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes, Social Security Disability Insurance will deliver benefits to you and certain family members. Home Access Program
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) Home Access Program is aimed to encourage independence and allow individuals with disabilities to live in their homes with the required home adaptations and to avoid needless admittance into nursing facilities. Bathroom retrofitting, including roll-in showers, wheelchair ramp building, lowering of cabinets and countertops, widening of entrances, and installation of visual aids and audio alarms, are eligible activities via the Home Access Program. DCA contracts with agencies such as the Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) and others to carry out home modification initiatives. Georgia’s electric, gas, and telephone utilities serve millions of consumers, yet many customers need the assistance of a payment assistance program to afford gas, electricity, or basic phone service. Many electric, gas and telephone utility providers offer payment plans to qualified clients. They may enable deferred payment for consumers who cannot pay their entire amount or postpone disconnection for customers attempting to pay their debts. The Georgia Food Stamp program offers low-income households monthly assistance to help them pay for food. Development Disabilities Ministries (DDM)
DDM is a humanitarian organization that serves persons with developmental impairments and their families. DDM owns and maintains 18 group homes in Georgia, serving about 70 individuals.
